At Dy Goed – Mynadd
I KA CHING Records is pleased to release Mynadd’s third single, ‘At Dy Goed’, on May 10, 2024.
The idea for the lyrics came to Gruffudd (piano) while reading Haf Llewelyn’s latest novel, ‘Salem’. He related to the main character’s words, noting that many young people come to their senses when they reach the sixth form or something similar.
“If anything, it’s quite a personal song, almost a letter to my past self,” said Gruff. “I still remind myself of the words when needed now and then. But essentially, it’s a song of hope, and it can fit into any context.”
“As a band, we’ve found it more productive to write songs individually, but when we come together to practice, the result is very different from the rough demo on my laptop. The band’s input, and that of Carwyn and Ifan (producers) as well, has been absolutely crucial, and of course, Elain (lead singer) has taken the rough melody and transformed it for the better. I introduced this song to the band during a quick practice in the small chapel in Trawsfynydd before a gig late last May, but Cadog (drums) kept berating me for a long time afterwards as we all tried to master the triplets in the middle eight! But it quickly became a bit of a favorite over the summer of ’23, and the song came together (!) sooner or later.”
The cover photo was taken by Geraint Thomas ‘Panorama’, father of Nel and Math from the band.
The band members are Elain Rhys (lead singer), Math Thomas (guitar), Gruffudd ab Owain (piano), Nel Thomas (bass), Cadog Edwards (drums).
Mynadd went to producers Carwyn Williams and Ifan Emlyn Jones at Stiwdio Sain to record the three singles.
