Blodau Papur

With Branwen Hâf Williams (Cowbois Rhos Botwnog, Siddi) on the keys, Aled Hughes (Cowbois Rhos Botwnog, Georgia Ruth) on the bass guitar, the guitarist Osian Huw Williams (Candelas, Palenco, Siddi), Gwion Llewelyn (Villagers, Racehorses) and Dafydd Hughes (Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog) taking turns behind the drum kit, it’s difficult not to get excited about Blodau Papur. That’s the name given to this group of experienced musicians, who accompany Alys Williams’ enchanting voice with a fusion of psychedelic blues and funk.

Since forming in 2017, they’ve been charming audiences accross the country, including playing with the BBC Orchestra in 2018 and singing to sell-out audiences as the word spread of magical nights in their company.

They released two singles in early 2019;  ‘Tyrd Ata I’, a tale of two lovers trying to pilot a fragile relationship, and ‘Llygad Ebrill’ which sings of how turbulent times can cause friendships to bloom.  In May 2019, ‘Yma’ was released – a track which echoes Fleetwood Mac’s quieter work, about people who cannot see that they have everything right in front of their eyes and who constantly search for the greener grass.

Blodau Papur released their debut self titled album at the beginning of June 2019.

Morfydd‘ appeared on the multi-artist record to celebrate I KA CHING’s tenth year, ‘X‘.
