Fuo Chi? – Blodau Papur
Tipping their hats to the great childhood ballads of the 1990s, ‘Fuo Chi?’ is a celebration of love and the tight bonds between people.
In contrast to the driving energy of ‘Dŵr’, their previous single, which remained on the BBC Radio Wales A-list for two consecutive weeks, ‘Fuo Chi?’ reveals a gentler side to the band, though with more passion than ever before in the powerful voice of Alys Williams.
Once again, the lyrics of Branwen Williams (keyboards and backing vocals) dig deep into the bittersweet experiences of growing up and making decisions. Under the magnifying glass this time are her grandmother and grandfather, and how that generation was far more willing to work on something and repair it, rather than thoughtlessly throw it away, whether literally or within a relationship.
The striking single cover was created by Cat Williams, Alys’ daughter, shadowed by Dafydd Owain. Joining Blodau Papur on saxophone is Dafydd Glyn Williams.
‘Fuo Chi?’ will be BBC Radio Cymru’s Track of the Week during the week beginning 25 May.
