Propeller – Cpt. Smith’s new EP
Cpt.Smith’s début EP – ‘Propeller’ will be released on I Ka Ching records on 11 November 2016. You can purchase the EP here or from your local music shops or music websites.
‘Propeller’ encompasses Cpt. Smith’s lifetime as a band and discusses crucial events that have taken place, both personally and in the big world around them. The band’s frustrations are personified through their music and the EP reflects the powerful energy that flows out of Cpt. Smith’s live performances. Here we have punk, funk and phsychadelia influences, combined with touches of hip hop drum and bass that fuse together to create a hypnotic effect.
When discussing the themes of the EP, Ioan Hazel (main vocal and bass guitar) said: “Our themes vary – from the narcissist on the web in ‘Llenyddiaeth’ to ‘Propeller’, which discusses how the west have created all the problems that faces us, after years of mistreatment, taking advantage and pushing beliefs on eastern countries. There are multiple inspiration strands behind the songs, but we want the listeners to figure things out for themselves – so I won’t say more!”
The band will be appearing on BBC’s Radio Cymru Mwy on 10.11.16, where they will be choosing an hour’s worth of songs that have influenced all the band members. More details will be released on Radio Cymru Mwy’s website in due course.
Cpt. Smith formed back in 2014 and are from west Wales. The band consist of Jack Brown on the drums, his brother, Ellis Brown on guitar, Lloyd Jackson on guitar and Ioan Hazell on bass guitar and main vocals.
