Y Cledrau

Y Cledrau formed in 2012 in Ysgol y Berwyn by Joseff Owen (vocals and guitar), Ifan Prys (vocals and guitar) and Marged Gwenllian (bass guitar and backing vocals) and were later joined by Alun Lloyd on drums.

Having gone from one Battle of the Bands to another, including winning the Wakestock competion, they recorded their Sesiwn C2 radio session in October 2013. In 2014 the reached the finals of Cân i Gymru with ‘Agor y Drws’.

Following a year of gigging across Wales, Y Cledrau worked with producer Ifan Jones (Candelas) to record their debut EP, ‘Un Ar Ôl Y Llall’ which was released in 2015.

‘Peiriant Ateb’ – Y Cledrau‘s first album was released 1 December 2017.
Since August 2017, the band have been teasing us by releasing a song a month to Radio Cymru and Radio Wales. ‘Cliria Dy Bethau’ was Track of the Week on Radio Cymru in September and ‘Swigen o Genfigen’ was played as part of Bethan Elfyn’s mix tape on Radio 6.

Y Cledrau‘s second album – ‘Cashews Blasus’ – was released on the 2nd of July 2021, following its two singles, ‘Hei Be Sy’ and ‘Cerdda Fi i’r Traeth’. The album reached the shortlist for Best Album in the 2023 Y Selar awards, and its cover won the award for Best Artwork. Marged also won the award for ‘Star of the Scene’.

‘Os Oes Cymaint o Drwbwl…’ was on the multi-artist record to celebrate I KA CHING’s tenth year, ‘X‘.

The single ‘Fel Hyn Fel Arfer‘ was released in April 2023, with an accompanying video which reached the shortlist for Best Music Video in the Y Selar Awards, where they also won the award for Best Artwork for the second time.
