Swedish Tradition – Glain Rhys
I KA CHING Records is pleased to release ‘Swedish Tradition’ by Glain Rhys on 30.04.21; the second single from her upcoming album.
Glain suffered two years of writer’s block after releasing her first album ‘Atgof Prin’ back in 2018 (Sain), but she’s back with a new set of songs and a new direction to her music. Her first single on Ikaching Records – ‘Plu’r Gweunydd’ – was released in early February 2021, showcasing a more ambient, electro-pop vibe compared to her previous singer-songwriter style.
‘Swedish Tradition’ is a haunting pop song discussing an old midsummer tradition from Sweden, where girls would put seven wildflowers under their pillows at night, in the hope of dreaming about their true love.
“In the song, I’m portraying someone who won’t go to sleep because she refuses to acknowledge the fact that she’s in love,” says Glain. “Since being back home over lockdown I’ve loved being surrounded by nature once more, and this song is heavily influenced by the wildflowers around my home. This single is my favourite to date, and I can’t wait to share it.”
Glain has been working closely with producer Osian Huw Williams on the instrumentation and production of the song and Osian plays all the additional instruments.
Glain is influenced by artists such as Billie Eillish, Greta Isaac, Orla Gartland and Phoebe Bridges.
